Getting There

Three easy ways from Oman to Iran

Whether you prefer to fly or sail, reaching Persia from Oman is simpler than most travellers expect.

Fly from Muscat

Regular flights connect Muscat — and seasonally Salalah — to Shiraz, Tehran and other Iranian cities. Southern Iran is only a short flight away, perfect for a long weekend.

Sail from Khasab

From Musandam, a ferry crosses the Strait of Hormuz to Qeshm and Bandar Abbas, run by the National Ferries Company — a scenic route to Iran's southern islands.

Enter visa-free

Ordinary Omani passport holders can enter Iran visa-free for up to 29 days. For longer stays we arrange a visa on arrival or e-visa — and the Iranian Consulate in Ruwi can assist too.

Good to Know

Iran from Oman — your questions

Do Omani citizens need a visa for Iran?+
Holders of an ordinary Omani passport can enter Iran visa-free for up to 29 days, once in any 180-day period. For longer stays, a visa on arrival or e-visa can be arranged — we guide you through whichever suits your trip. Other nationalities resident in Oman should tell us their passport country and we'll advise.
Are there direct flights from Muscat to Iran?+
Yes — airlines run regular flights from Muscat (and seasonally Salalah) to cities such as Shiraz and Tehran. Southern Iran is a short flight from Oman, ideal for a weekend or short break. We'll recommend the best routing for your dates.
Is there a ferry from Oman to Iran?+
There is. From Khasab in Musandam, the National Ferries Company sails across the Strait of Hormuz to Qeshm and Bandar Abbas — a memorable way to reach Iran's southern islands. Ask us about current schedules.
Can I pay in Omani Rial (OMR)?+
Yes. We quote and take payment in OMR for travellers based in Oman, and we handle all in-country costs — so Iran's cash-only payment system is never your problem.
When is the best time to go?+
October to April is ideal — pleasant across most of Iran and a perfect escape from the Gulf summer. Spring and autumn are especially lovely for the classic cultural cities. See our general travel FAQ for more.
